Xiaomi Mi5s Rumour Round up: Expected features, upgrades and price

We are less than a week away from the official unveiling and launch of Xiaomi’s latest product from the premium ‘Mi’ lineup. Earlier this year, Xiaomi had launched the Mi5 in India for a pricetag of INR 24,999, following which, the Mi Max phablet was brought in the market. Well the brand didn’t stop there and launched new and newer smartphones from the Redmi lineup one after the other. The upcoming smartphone that will be uncovered at the event that is scheduled to take place on 27 September 2016 will be the Xiaomi Mi5s.

Xiaomi Mi5

The Xiaomi Mi5s will be an upgraded version of the Mi5. It will not only get new features but also hardware addition and tweaks that will take its already blazing performance to the next level. The maker has teased the Mi5s on a couple of occasions and also a lot leaked info and images of the device have cropped up. So, here we have compiled 10 known facts and features of the Mi5s for a final rumour roundup of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5s.

Name

xiaomi-mi5s

Xiaomi has not clearly stated anywhere that the upcoming to-be-launched phone will be the Mi5s. Still, there are plenty of instances that support the ‘Mi5s’ name with the latest instance being the official invite. The official invite, which also happens to be a teaser, revealed the ‘S’. Previously, as per leaked information, details of the upgraded version of the Xiaomi Mi5 were mentioned on a benchmarking website. So, if the math is right then Mi5s it is!

Antutu Score

A freshly baked teaser has been released by Xiaomi that not only shares new information of the Mi5S but also teases (literally) another smartphone. The teaser image shows the Antutu score of the Mi5s that stands at a whopping 164119, this also takes a gibe at LeEco Le Pro 3 that has a lower score. The Mi5 has been one of the top scorers in Antutu benchmarking consistently and by the score of this newbie it seems that the smartphone will take the legacy ahead.

Performance Hardware

Xiaomi Mi5

How does the Mi5s make such numbers? As per leaked information making rounds on the internet, the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 chipset with a clock speed of about 2.4 GHz is fitted inside the Mi5s. This SoC is expected to be coupled with Adreno 530 GPU and 6GB of LPDDR4 RAM. An internal memory of 256GB is also likely to be offered.

Display and Fingerprint Sensor

OnePlus 2 fingerprint sensor

The display on the Mi5s is rumoured to be a pressure sensitive unit, something like we see on iPhones. We hope that MIUI developers make good use of it and introduce intuitive features. The size of the screen will be the same as the one seen on Mi5 but is expected to be upgraded with a layer of technology. There is news that the fingerprint sensor will be integrated in the screen glass. The new enhanced tech goes by the name – Qualcomm Snapdragon Sense ID. It uses ultrasonic technology to create a detailed map of the minute details of the fingerprint and detect liveness—engineered to make both our solution and a user’s authentication difficult to imitate. Snapdragon Sense ID fingerprint technology is based on the same superior, proven ultrasonic technology developed for the U.S. government and its Appendix F-level applications.

Camera

The camera hardware is reported to have received upgrades. The tweaks on the 16MP rear unit include f/1.9 aperture and probably the 4MP Front camera is replaced by a 13MP unit.

Battery and features

To support all the above mentioned hardware efficiently, the Mi5s will be packed with a battery with 3,490 mAh capacity. This battery pack will support Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0. The Xiaomi Mi5s will get Android Marshmallow with MiUI8 on top straight out of the box.

Price

The Xiaomi Mi5 was launched at a price of INR 2,499 and after a couple of price drops and festive discounts the smartphone now sells for INR 2,299. Also the just launched LeEco Le Pro3 is available in two variants – the 4GB RAM + 32GB ROM costs RMB 1,799 (INR 17,999) and the 6GB RAM + 64GB is priced at RMB 1,999 (INR 19,990). Also on offer are 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM variants with 64GB and 128GB storage respectively at RMB 2,499 (INR 24,999) and RMB 2,999 (INR 29,990) respectively. (All prices mentioned in INR are approximate values). So we can expect prices of the Xiaomi Mi5s anywhere between INR 22,000 and INR 27,000.
