Yu Televentures, which is a Micromax subsidiary is set to launch its flagship smart phone, the new Yu Yunicorn. The launch is supposed to take place on Tuesday at a New Delhi event that starts at 11am IST.
Earlier, the company had postponed its event from last week due to election results expected on the same day. During the weekend, Yu Founder Rahul Sharma had teased via Twitter that users can say goodbye to wallets. The teaser hinted at the integration of the Udio wallet feature in the smart phone.
Also during the weekend, to keep up people’s excitement, the company posted another short teaser video showcasing the Yu Yunicorn, in which we can clearly see the metal frame and rear panel of the smart phone, an oblong home button that is expected to bear the fingerprint sensor, and what could be termed an iPhone-like design.
As of now, not too much is known about the new flagship from Yu. The company has shared a few other teasers, and one of them hinted that the Yunicorn flagship might be priced competitively. The company has already confirmed that the next flagship will run on Android with a deep integration of Around Yu, which is a service aggregator platform that was introduced during the last year alongside the company’s Yutopia smart phone. Yu is currently expected to sell the Yunicorn flagship via online channels only.
The company had recently also provided details of its “Project Highway” which is a way the company wants to enable the community developers and even others to contribute to the company’s source code. Rahul Sharma, company founder, while talking about the new Yu smart phone, had previously said, It’s insanely beautiful and it will break some hearts. It will break records, it will break the conventional, it will break the rules…WAIT, it will break the flagships.
